Self-awareness is the ability to self-assess personal performance and behavior in order to appropriately respond in varying social situations. This micro-skill focuses on both the awareness of personal behaviors and how these behaviors are perceived by others. Overall, self-awareness aids in the understanding of an individual’s emotions as well as the emotions of others.
Self-awareness plays a pivotal role not only in time management and organization, but also in emotional and social development. Prompting students to reflect on their own capabilities, self-awareness allows students to accurately assess their performance to determine how much time a task will require. By becoming self-aware, students can become emotionally perceptive of themselves and others.
